A Poem & A Breakthrough

Yesterday I stopped by O'Donnell Elementary to pick up March scorecards and check in with Mr. B, the P.E. teacher there who is our school champion.

A third grader named Johana Guillen had written a poem that he was to give to me. It reads:

Drive 2 Fitness is the best,
Especially when you get to take a rest,
I love to play in the Spring,
'Cause you can do anything.
Since, I love to play,
I play almost everyday.
Our gym teacher helps me,
His name is Mr. B.
Drive 2 Fitness is the best,
Now it's time to take a rest.

Mr. B told me yesterday how much he values the Drive 2 Fitness program. "I was a skeptic," he told me. "But I really think this is important." He went on to say how excited he was that we are inspiring children to lead healthy lives and that he's thrilled to be doing this work so that whenever it is that these young people become motivated to lead healthier lives that they will have the knowledge and tools to do so. "And the forms," he said. "Well, that's a basic life skill to have. They're going to be filling out forms the rest of their lives!"
